Is Tae Kwon Do a Sport or a Martial Art?

Tae Kwon Do is both a sport and a Martial Art. Our institution teaches students both the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF) or Olympic Style as well as the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) style Tae Kwon Do. Although many people consider the WTF and Olympic style more of a sport than an art, the modern techniques of Tae Kwon Do is an effective Self Defense tool. The Forms also known as "Hyungs" or "Paomse" prepares the student in applying a combination of balance, power and speed for the proper execution of techniques. Sparring or Fighting is also practiced during class. This prepares the student to react in different types of situation for "Self Defense". Whether you are joining for Health Benefits, Self Defense, Sport, to complete in Tournaments, or simply for self confidence, training in Tae Kwon Do provides many benefits.
